Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
