The accused admitted 17 charges at the judicial center on the end of the week

A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained Ruben went on to play the "treat game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative stated the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the police again.

She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
