Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Planners groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
